El Santo (the Saint), was a Mexican Luchador Enmascarado (Spanish for masked professional wrestler), film actor, and folk icon. El Santo, along with Blue Demon & Mil Máscaras, is one of the most famous and iconic of all Mexican luchadores, and has been referred to as one of "the greatest legends in Mexican sports" His wrestling career spanned nearly five decades, during which he became a folk hero and a symbol of justice for the common man through his appearances in comic books and movies.
Ah, lucha. My love for technicos is without limit. I can't watch those movies without eating something with cheese. All the dangers in the world: be they monsters, mad scientists, or mobsters (the three 'm's!) suffer equally from a well executed grapple and lock. Storytelling like God intended.
Admittedly, my first exposure to the character was an episode of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 , where one of his films was shown, albeit dubbed in English and retitled Samson Vs. The Vampire Women.
